Marrakech's climate at a glance
Marrakech has a semi-arid climate: more than 3,200 hours of sunshine a year, only 220 mm of rain on average and about thirty rainy days. The city sits at 466 m, 150 km from the Atlantic and at the foot of the High Atlas, which explains two things you will notice: big differences between day and night and very hot summers.
In July and August afternoons average 37-38 °C and can pass 45 °C when the chergui, a hot dry wind from the east, blows. In January afternoons stay mild (19 °C on average) but nights drop to around 6 °C, and riads are rarely well heated. Rain falls mostly from November to April, usually as short showers.
The most pleasant seasons to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November). To choose your dates, read our guide to the best time to visit Marrakech and the weather month by month.
Our forecasts come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), which uses the global model of the European Centre (ECMWF), refreshed every hour. We turn them into practical advice: the best time for the medina, hot-air balloon conditions, sunset quality in Agafay, storm risk in the Ourika Valley or snow at Oukaïmeden.
