Temperatures and sunshine
August extends July: dry heat, 35-40 °C afternoons, warm nights and a UV index of 10. The air can feel a little heavier and dustier. Rain is rare in town (5 mm on average), but the Atlas generates violent storms on some afternoons.
Beware of mountain storms
Summer storms over the Atlas can make rivers rise very quickly, especially in the Ourika Valley, which has suffered deadly flash floods in the past. If a storm is forecast, do not settle in the riverbed and come down before mid-afternoon. Our “Ourika Valley” index warns you when the risk is there.
Things to do in August
Same rhythm as July: out early and late, pool and indoors during the hottest hours. Evenings in the Agafay Desert are pleasant as temperatures fall towards 25 °C. Essaouira remains the best escape (22 °C).

Several public holidays fall in August: the 14th (Oued Ed-Dahab), 20th (Revolution of the King and the People) and 21st (Youth Day); in 2027 the Mawlid is also expected around 15 August (estimated). It is holiday season for Moroccan families, so book transport ahead.
