Temperatures and sunshine
June brings summer: 32-36 °C afternoons, peaks above 40 °C during chergui spells, 17-20 °C nights. It hardly ever rains (3 mm on average). These are the longest days of the year: sunrise around 5:30 am and sunset around 7:40 pm.
The air is dry, which makes the heat easier to bear than by the sea, but dehydration comes quickly: drink regularly, even if you are not thirsty.
Where to cool down
In Essaouira, 2 h 45 away, it is often 21-22 °C with the Atlantic breeze. In the Ourika Valley you gain 6-10 °C by the river; at Oukaïmeden (2,650 m) the air is downright fresh. In Marrakech itself, the pool becomes the centre of the day.
Things to do in June
Sightsee from 8 to 11 am (Majorelle at opening time, the medina), pool or an air-conditioned museum in the afternoon, then dinner on a rooftop or in the Agafay Desert, where evenings are mild and nights starry. In Essaouira the Gnaoua World Music Festival usually takes place in June.
Good to know
Prices drop compared with spring and the big sights are quieter early in the month. Avoid long walks in the midday sun and check our daily index to pick the right time slot.
