Temperatures and sunshine
May is dry and sunny: only 10 mm of rain and mostly cloudless skies. Afternoons hover around 27-31 °C, but a chergui, the hot easterly wind, can push the mercury above 38 °C for a few days. Evenings are mild, perfect for rooftops.
The UV index reaches 10: avoid full sun between noon and 4 pm and protect yourself properly.
Things to do in May
The ideal month to combine early sightseeing with pool afternoons, now genuinely pleasant. Nights in the Agafay Desert are mild and the starry skies superb. In the Dadès valley the rose season peaks around Kelaat M’Gouna. Merzouga starts to heat up: go early in the month.
Adapt your pace
Start sightseeing around 8-9 am, rest in the shade or indoors during the hottest hours (museums, hammam, a siesta in your riad) and head out again after 5 pm for Jemaa el-Fna and sunset, around 7:20 pm.
Good to know
1 May is a public holiday. In 2027 Eid al-Adha is expected around 17-18 May (to be confirmed): many shops close for a day or two and families travel.
