Temperatures and rain
March is a changeable month: a single week can bring showers and 27 °C afternoons. On average expect 24 °C at the warmest, 10 °C at the coolest and about 8.25 hours of sunshine a day. Rain usually falls as showers, sometimes thundery late in the day, rarely all day.
By mid-March the sun rises around 6:45 am and sets around 6:40 pm: rooftop evenings are back with a light jacket.
Moroccan spring
This is the greenest time of year: orange trees and bougainvillea flower in the riads, fields turn green around the city and waterfalls run strong in the Ourika Valley and at Ouzoud. The Atlas peaks keep their snow, making for superb views from the Agafay plateau.
Things to do in March
The gardens (Majorelle, Le Jardin Secret, Agdal) are at their best. Day hikes in the Atlas become very pleasant, keeping an eye on afternoon storms. On rainy days, go for museums, a cooking class or a hammam: our page on rain in Marrakech has ideas.
Good to know
In 2027 the end of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr are expected around 9-11 March (to be confirmed), with two public holidays: many Moroccans travel, so transport and rooms are in demand. Pack sunscreen too: the UV index already reaches 7.
